October - Season opens for back country streams. Water and weather is cool.
November - Warmer temperatures. Good nymph and dry fly fishing.
December - Surface feeding begins. Dry flies or dry fly/nymph combination.
January - Summer. Surface feeding.
February - Lower waters. Dry fly fishing
March - Nymphs and dry flies.
April - Cooler. Mostly nymphing, with dry-fly fishing on small streams.
May – September - Winter months. Back-country rivers close for spawning. Fly fishing for river-running rainbows in Lake Taupo rivers. Nymphs & wet flies

For some, Tauhara Sunrise is a bed and breakfast with the utmost in privacy. For others it’s a home stay a chance to mingle with the McEwan family (Rob, a Kiwi, Becky, a Texan, and teenager Ross, a Texan/Kiwi) and chat around the open fire, in the hot tub, or on the expansive patio.

All three of the suites have magnificent lake views. The names of the suites have been chosen based on the view that most distinguishes each suite.

Glimmering Lights
This king suite, with marble & tile ensuite and luxurious double spa bath, features the lights of Taupo glistening on the lake at night.

White Cliffs
This disabled-accessible suite with oversized shower can be configured with either a king size bed, or two twin (single) beds. The view is across the lake to the white limestone cliffs in the distance and mountains beyond.

Lake Taupo
This queen suite is our smallest, but offers full-on views of the lake while lying in bed, as well as the lights of Taupo by night. Ensuite features a shower, vanity unit crafted from native New Zealand timbers, and a wardrobe/dressing room

Getting there may take a little while, but it is worth it. Tauhara is a short flight from Auckland via Air New Zealand. Or you can rent a car for the 3 hour drive through the beautiful countryside of the North Island

The Lake Taupo region of New Zealand offers an abundance of things to do and as part of your stay at the luxury lodge. We will gladly take care of all activity arrangements on your behalf.
